The 5R110W transmission is found in Ford F250, F350, F450, and F550 Series trucks. It was designed to improve fuel economy, performance, and shift quality and strategy. The 5R110W transmission is a five-speed automatic with a Tow/Haul mode.
The 5R110W transmission uses an electronic control system with sensors and solenoids to regulate gear shifts. It has a limp mode feature that alerts the driver to take the vehicle to a transmission shop.
The 5R110W transmission was replaced in Super Duty trucks by the 6R 140 transmission in 2011 and the 10R 140 transmission in 2020.
